A good story captivates the reader; it pulls them in and makes them want to keep reading. For me a good story needs suspense and drama in order to hold my attention. It also helps when you can relate to the character, when you can feel like you know how or what they feel, this makes it easier to relate to their problems. I enjoy getting to know the characters and learning about their lives in order to grasp an understanding of each character and why they are the what they are.
The book usually grabs my attention when a major conflict breaks out for example when the main character is faced with a difficult decision. Another element that makes a book interesting is when the book makes you think, think beyond the text in order to see the real life lesson. I enjoy books like this and it lets me see the world through someone else’s eyes and see what they feel are important in their lives. In order to keep me hooked the author has to make the whole book equally interesting and try not to have slow parts because that is when I decide to put the book aside and not pick it up again for a month or two.
