What I think makes a good story

What makes a good story is a good connection to a character, like how in the beginning of most movies you can see the character in their daily life. For example if the character is a man over 30 it might show him getting up early, taking a shower, making coffee, shaving, and things he does before he goes to work. That is when you can make connections and understand more about their life. If the main character is a slacker, it would probably show him sleeping in, not bothering with cleanliness, and that’s when you get an idea of what kind of person he’s going to be. Also what makes a good story is a comedic character. Whether it’s the main character or not, I think there needs to be someone who is entertaining, either by being witty or funny or naïve, it just makes the story more enjoyable.
Unexpected turns and surprises make a story interesting, if I always knew what was going to happen next I probably wouldn’t keep reading on because there would be nothing left to find out. Suspense is good too because it can help you make connections with the book or movie by thinking “What would I do in that situation?” and also it’s entertaining.
